The Tetons of Wyoming offer some of the finest Alpine climbing in the lower 48 states. Whether as outstanding climbing objectives of their own or the perfect training ground for adventures in the greater ranges, the Tetons have been one of the centers of American climbing for the last 70 years.
I have been priviliged to guide for the Exum Guide Service off and on for the last thirty years. Exum is the only guide service authorized by the National Park Service to guide all of the peaks and climbs in Grand Teton National Park. Since its founding in the 1920's by the legendary Glenn Exum, the Exum Guide Service has employed some of Americas finest mountaineers and offers an unbroken connection to the great traditions of Amercian mountaineering in the west. Come climb with me in the Tetons in the summer of 2003.
Some of my favorite climbs are:
Irenes Arete: Six to eight pitches of difficult, exposed climbing on beautiful rock follow this spectacluar fin of rock which rises high above the mountain scenery of Garnet Canyon. Arguably one of the worlds top ten climbs. Rating, 5.8.
The Snaz: This steep wall of rock which soars above Death Canyon yields only to an experienced, fit climber. The climb features nine steep, sustained pitches of up to 5.9 to 5.10 climbing.
Complete Exum Ridge on the Grand Teton: An outstanding long alpine rock climb. Six steep pitches of 5.7 to 5.8 climbing on excellent rock lead to the Upper Exum Ridge which is followed to the summit.
North Ridge of the Grand Teton: This spectacular ridge rises thousands of feet above Valhalla Canyon and is one of the most direct, challenging and aesthetic routes to the summit of the Grand. Rating: 5.8 to 5.9.
